Rate a retrospective with your ROTI

Measure the effectiveness of your retrospectives with ROTI.

ROTI? What is that?

This technique takes its name from an acronym: Return On Time Invested.

A ROTI aims to measure the effectiveness of a meeting by assessing the time invested by each participant.

Intuitive and engaging, this tool helps you collect feedback and comments to improve the facilitation quality of your retrospectives.

Here are three direct benefits of using ROTI:

  • Measure the effectiveness of the retrospective through the lens of time invested

  • Reinforce psychological safety by allowing everyone to express themselves

  • Generate ideas to improve the quality of the next retrospective

What does a ROTI look like in the Neatro experience?

You can find the ROTI module in your retrospective report (the final stage of your retrospective, just after completing your Action Plan).

Note that only Facilitators can view the results without completing the ROTI assessment themselves.

First, each retrospective participant is invited to evaluate the meeting.

To do this, we provide a clear rating scale that makes it easy for everyone to assess the return on time invested in the retrospective.

1/5 – Useless meeting

I feel like I’ve completely wasted my time.
The retrospective hasn’t been productive at all.

2/5 – No real value

I could have used my time more effectively.
We can definitely do better as a team.

3/5 – Fine retrospective

I think my time has been fairly well spent.
The retrospective was reasonably productive.

4/5 – Good retrospective!

Overall, I’m happy with the time I invested in this meeting.
The retrospective was productive.

5/5 – Great retrospective!

Every minute I spent was valuable.
I feel like this retrospective has helped us grow.

Of course, the ratings remain permanently anonymous, even after the results are shared with the team.

Immediately after submitting a rating, each participant has the opportunity to share comments, suggestions for improvement, or general remarks about the session — anonymously.

For transparency, the ROTI results (scores and comments) are shared with the entire team. Through a simple and intuitive interface, you can quickly observe the trends emerging from the ROTI.

The more retrospectives you complete with your team, the more you will be able to measure progress over time.
